Janet Hjelmgren

JANET HJELMGREN

Originally from Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Janet Hjelmgren attended The College of St. Catherine, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Visual Art. She continued her studies in music and art in Florence, Italy and the University of Maryland. Ms.Hjelmgren later joined The U.S. Army Field Band Soldiers' Chorus and throughout her career has been a regularly featured soloist in performances across the United States, Europe and Asia. She is a founding member of the Vocal Arts Ensemble, the Field Band's first vocal educational outreach small ensemble. Additionally, she has soloed with a number of orchestras to include the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Complementing her music performance experience, Ms. Hjelmgren holds a Masters Degree in Counseling from Bowie State University and a Post-Master's Certificate in Organizational Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Her studies and subsequent work in the area of performance anxiety and performance issues have made her a successful and sought-after clinician, counselor, and educator. Her work as a performing artist and counselor has led her to develop an integrated and creative approach to performance related challenges. Janet Hjelmgren's company, Performance Partnership Consulting, provides individual and team performance improvement strategies for enhancing organizational success. When Ms. Hjelmgren is not on tour with the Field Band, she serves as cantor for Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Community and St. Benedict's Parish. Bluegrass singer Dave Norris has been crafting songs all of his life, reflecting the heritage of his southern Maryland region through his music and art. Born and raised in the historic colonial port town of Chaptico, on the western shore of St. Mary's County, Maryland, his tunes have been recorded by such quality artists as: Blue Highway, The Seldom Scene, IIIrd Tyme Out, Larry Sparks, Valarie Smith & Liberty Pike, Jim Hurst, and Gary Ferguson and Sally Love.

His song The Best Durn Ride, is the title cut of the new album by IIIrd Tyme Out on CMG Chateau Records.

In 1996 his song Timberline won Nashville's Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest, in Wilkesboro, N.C. He has performed Songwriter Showcases at the IBMA (International Bluegrass Musicians Assoc) in Louisville, Ky., Picker's Supply Songwriter's Night in Fredricksburg, Va., and also represented Southern Maryland at the Maritime exhibit of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2004 in Washington, D.C.

Bluegrass Unlimited has described him as "one of the most refreshing new writers in bluegrass music".

His Southern Maryland style of Folk, Americana and Bluegrass music is well worth the listen.

Robert Jefferson

Robert L. Jefferson

Robert L. Jefferson holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona, a Master of Music degree from the University of Houston, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Maryland. He began playing the piano at age seven and for the church soon afterward. Dr. Jefferson was able to refine his gospel style by serving as pianist for the Mount Calvary Baptist Church, the Salt River Valley District Association Congress and the Arizona National Baptist Convention. He also promoted the gospel style of piano playing through his private piano students.

He is experienced as a soloist, songwriter, recording artist and jazz pianist and continues to perform and conduct workshops nationally and internationally. He has performed with major symphonic orchestras and in concert halls including Strathmore, Meyerhoff, Boston Symphony and Carnegie Hall. Jefferson also has choral works and other compositions published by Theodore Presser and Oxford University Press as well as other publishers.

Tim Young

Pianist/composer Tim Young is starting to make his mark in the jazz world. After completing his education at the University of North Texas, Tim returned back to the east coast to serve as pianist with the Army Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C. Tim has held this position for the past seven years. Tim has performed extensively throughout the entire United States, and has performed in Japan, China, and Germany. Tim is a sought out player because of his ability to adapt to any musical situation. His style covers just about all. Tim has performed with Ray Anderson, Steve Swallow, Charles McPhearson, "Doc" Cheatham, Rebecca Parris, Joe LaBarbera, Lou Marini, Ben Vereen, Greg Gisbert, and Slide Hampton.

 

Jennifer Everhart

JENNIFER EVERHART

Jennifer Everhart is a clarinetist with the United States Army Field Band. She has performed as a soloist with the band on numerous concert tours and is a member of the Field Band Clarinet Quartet. Mrs. Everhart is a member of Baltimore´s newest contemporary music ensemble, Mobtown Modern and an active performer in the Baltimore/DC area. In addition, she has performed with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. She earned a Bachelor´s degree at Furman University, where she studied with Dr. Robert Chesebro, and a Master´ s degree at Indiana University, where she studied with Professor Howard Klug.

 

Latrice Carr

Latrice Carr, is a gospel artist originally from Portsmouth, Virginia currently residing in Great Mills, Maryland. She is the proud wife of her husband and manager, James, and the mother of two beautiful daughters, JaShayla and Janae. Latrice serves as the praise and worship leader at Greater Mount Zion in Prince Frederick, Maryland.

Latrice has been attracted to the microphone since the age of seven when she performed her very first solo. From that moment on, Latrice would sing at every venue possible when given the opportunity. She would continue to perform throughout her young adult life in the school and church choirs. Latrice would later become a member of the gospel group, "The Gospel Messengers," of Kaiserslautern, Germany in which she performed shows in various venues and exhibits throughout multiple European cities and countries spreading God's word through song.

Latrice recently recorded her debut solo album, "One Voice One Sound". Some of her past performances include the rendition of Etta James' "At Last" for the wedding ceremony of Combs-Rader in St Maarten, Netherlands Antilles; "Park Rock Fest 2008" in August at Chancellors Run Regional Park, a moving rendition of Sam Cooke's, "A Change is Gonna Come," backup at the live album release concert of Gospel Artist "Carmen Calhoun" and is also featured in the live DVD taping of Carmen's sophomore album "Life."

Brian Sacawa

Praised as "an inventive musician" (The New York Times), "inspired" (Washington Post), and a "sharp new music saxophonist" (Time Out New York), Brian Sacawa has firmly established himself as an important contemporary voice for his instrument. Active internationally as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician, his versatile career has led to appearances ranging from the concert stage to club settings as well as the premieres of over 50 new works by both established and emerging composers. Mr. Sacawa's critically acclaimed, Grammy-winning recordings can be heard on the Naxos, Innova, Equilibrium, and BiBimBop record labels. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan, the Peabody Conservatory, and the University of Massachusetts--Amherst, where he studied with Donald Sinta, Gary Louie, and Lynn Klock. With composer/turntablist Erik Spangler (a.k.a. DJ Dubble8), Sacawa performs in the genre-bending duo Hybrid Groove Project and is the Executive Director of Mobtown Modern, a new music series at Baltimore's Contemporary Museum. He is also the author of the blog Sounds Like Now. Mr. Sacawa currently serves as saxophonist with The U.S. Army Field Band and on the faculty of the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He lives in Baltimore, MD with his wife, music journalist Molly Sheridan.

Doug Jordan

DOUG "DJ" JORDAN

DJ, is a multi-talented vocalist; performing gospel, Jazz, R&B, and Ballads. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, currently residing in Alexandria, VA, he is the retired vocalist for the United States Air Forces' Premier Jazz Ensemble, the Airmen of Note. To this date, he has been the only male assigned as a vocalist with the Airmen of Note. As the current President and CEO of At Home Management of Washington, DC, he enjoys being able to lend a helping hand in the music world of the public and charter schools his company is associated with on a daily basis in DC.

DJ has performed since the age of 13 and continues to perform for numerous events. Having the ability to accompany himself, he takes a song and makes it his own. He has performed with other military entertainment groups, to include the USAFE Showcase and Tops in Blue. Being assigned to various Air Force Regional Bands, he has performed in England, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Japan, Australia, Korea, and Singapore, to name a few countries. One of his greatest highlights was performing for the late Rev. Billy Graham during his crusade throughout Japan.

He has performed with numerous artists and on shows such as Late Night with David Letterman. He is a natural entertainer; a crowd pleaser and has the ability to take you away into another musical dimension.

Jefferson Presents gives seasonal concerts and recitals featuring guest artists of diverse musical backgrounds and genres. Artist's music range from Instrumental to Vocal to Dance; Jazz to Bluegrass; Opera to Gospel; Blues to Country; and from Solo to Groups.

Concerts and recitals take place at Nekadesh Farm in Colton's Point, Maryland in an intimate setting overlooking the beautiful Potomac River. Each concert is unique and free to the public.

Jefferson Presents Concerts are benefit concerts given in support of Nazareth Ministries, a service which offers ministerial retreat for Pastors and Ministers.

Both professional and talented amateur artists appear on Jefferson Presents Concerts. Artists who are selected to appear on the Jefferson Presents Concerts have the opportunity to perform for audiences without the hassle of scheduling and advertising. Therefore, they can focus entirely on their performance. The artists are also given the opportunity to promote and sell their products at each concert. And one of the most appealing features of appearing on a Jefferson Presents Concert is the exposure and opportunity to network for future performances. Past artists have stated that they have received contacts and additional paid performance opportunities following their appearance on a Jefferson Presents Concert.

A typical Jefferson Presents Concert includes no more than 4-6 artists. Each artist is given up to 15 minutes to perform selections of their choice. After appearing on a Jefferson Presents Concert, artists may be given the opportunity to perform an entire concert or recital at a later date. [This concert may include a ticketed fee to the public]. In addition to the above, artists will be featured on the Jefferson Presents web site and will include their Photo, Bio, and Link to their personal web site.
